Bangs, Beautiful Toes, and Best Buddies

My little girl is about to become a BIG sister in a matter of days. With a title that important in her future, it was also time to do something about the crazy mop of flyaway curls adorning her darling head.

I can't bring myself to cut the curls themselves yet - they are wispy and crazy and SUPER curly when it's hot, but I love them. However, Lexi is constantly (CONSTANTLY) pushing her little fingers up against her hair to keep it out of her eyes and face. So, I took a very professional pair of kitchen scissors to the front of her hairline, and I don't think I did a bad job, personally. My baby is now a big girl!

Also, to add to the 'Big-Girl-ness" Lexi let me paint her toenails. This shot shows off the true dichotomy of her nature - she LOVED her pink toenails, and doesn't this particular shade of fuchsia go well with the scrapes and bruises on her legs from being such a rough and tumble little kid? She can't make up her mind whether to be a tomboy (she loves to run and play and chase and dive) or a girlie-girl (she loves anything pink, sparkly, princesses, and playing dress-up). I'm very much ok with her dual-nature, it's just sort of amusing.

And last - the two partners in crime (aka everything). When we took Roxy in to the vet for her checkup (sidenote: this dog is almost 6 years old? How did that happen?) we found out she had gained 7 pounds!!!! The vet asked what had changed about her diet and lifestyle, and we said nothing, we just have a three year old and . . . oh yeah, Roxy's been getting slipped some major table scraps over the last few months. She even had a spot on the back of her neck with strawberry jelly on it at that moment - exhibit A, people! So, Roxy's on a diet and we are trying to be more vigilant about the amount of peanut butter and jelly she gets slipped. Either way, those few extra pounds have solidified Lexi's place as number #1 in Roxy's heart - which is ok with me, too.

Running out of time

WOW - where has the time gone? March and April have flown by as we are hastily preparing for the arrival of our next baby girl. Even though I think, "I really really need to update the blog" almost nightly, it has yet to be my priority. So here are a few photos to get you by until I can find something else:

Go Big Money!

I found this website a few weeks ago. Basically, it's a contest and you can enter daily. Whenever you enter, you get a chance to 'spin' for prizes (by the way, I've NEVER won!). One day, Lexi walked past, and said:
"what are you doing, Mom?"
"I'm trying to win this, Lexi"
"Win what, Mom?"
"Big money, honey, I'm trying to win big money!"
"Oh, me Lexi do it - Go big Money! Go Big Money, GGOOOOO!"

Now it's a daily ritual. We are using 5 different email addresses now, even. Not because we are THAT desperate to win, but just because we like to hear Lexi yelling "GO Big Money! GO Big Money!" and then "Awww . . . we lost!" when we don't win anything.

What would you say?

Lately, our little lady's language learning has been limitless! (YAHTZEE!) Whenever she says something particularly amusing, I try to share it with Paul and when I went back to look at e-mails and texts from the past few weeks, I found these "Lexi-isms" as we call them!

- "Not Today!" - she uses this whenever she doesn't want something, like healthy food.

- "Baby sister not home yet!" - when you ask her where her Baby Sister is

- "My Dada in Georgia" - Paul went on a week-long (felt like month-long) business trip to Athens, Georgia

- "Momma, me a busy bee!"

- "Momma, no say 'yeah' - say 'yes' - not 'yeah" (Little Miss Manners)

- "Stop screaming!" - usually from one Barbie doll to the other

- "Momma, Lexi go home and me eat candy canes!" - this was well after Christmas by the way

- On the way to the babysitter's house, when we passed the Zoo, "Me no go to Julie's house today, me go see animals!"

- "Momma, I like Kai-lan! Ni hao!" - for those of you that don't know, 'ni hao' is 'hi' in Chinese.

- While in the other room, listening to Lexi play with her Barbie dolls, I keep hearing, "I'm on a boat!"

- I let Lexi feel the baby kick and she said, "Baby sister, no kicking Momma! That's not very nice of you!"

- "I very naughty" - she's not

- "It's so wonderful"

- "I'm stuck-edy!"

- and last, Lexi informed me while we were reading a story book with a unicorn in it, that a unicorn is just a horse, with a party hat.

The newest member of our family!

OUR NEW FISH!

Now for those of you who know me at all, you are probably thinking something along the lines of "What the WHAT?" because you know, you KNOW, how much I am creeped out by fish. So creeped out that I won't even swim in a lake, creeped out.

So let me explain. This was ALL Paul's idea. He thought that as much as Lexi loves the fish at the zoo, it would be so much fun to get her a fish for her bedroom - a fish of her VERY own. Oh, how sweet!

So he talked me into it on the condition that I would not have to do ANYTHING, EVER, to help maintain the fish. No cleaning, no feeding, no water changing - nothing! Off to the pet store we go to pick out our new fish and little tank. SIDENOTE: aren't fish supposed to be cheap? This little dude was not a bargain - $14 for a fish? you've got to be kidding me? Whatever - this one's on Daddy.

We get our fish home, set up in his new crib, got him some sweet colored gravel on the bottom of the bowl, and picked out a spot for him to live in Lexi's room. She was pumped - I mean SUPER pumped about this fish! Until bedtime that is . . .

Lexi is extremely routine when it comes to bedtime; to the point, she may have OCD. So the presence of that fish in her room, a fish who had not previously been there, put her little brain on overload and she wanted him out and she wanted him out NOW! She begged and cried and even went so far as to say, "He not Lexi's fish! He daddy's fish! He sleep in Daddy's room! He not Lexi's fish, no sleep in Lexi's room"

Out the fish went. Great.

For now the fish is living in the middle of our kitchen table. Lexi loves him again (as long as he keeps a respectful distance from her bedroom) and talks to him while she eats and colors and plays.

What is his name, you ask? Well, that is so far undetermined. Paul wanted to name him Frank Martin (EMAW!) and Lexi changes his name daily. So far she has named him W (?), Three, and Nemo. When she said Nemo, I said, "No way! That is a completely unoriginal name for a fish. No, not hapenning!" To this my husband replied, "Really, Megan? She's 2, if she wants to name her fish Nemo, let her!" fine. It'll be something bizarre like 'ice cream' tomorrow anyway.

My name suggestion was Alpha (get it, he's a BETA fish? And if he dies, we'll just work our way down the Greek alphabet with more creepster-fish, finally putting to good use the fact I had to memorize the Greek alphabet for sorority initiation).

Stay tuned for the saga of Frank/W/Nemo/Three/Alpha/Whatever.

Cupcake Queen

So here's how our Cupcake Adventure went down:

1. I decided Lexi was old enough to help make cupcakes. She agreed. SHe helped me put the ingredients in the bowl, and taste the batter.

2. She tasted the batter again and again and again. Sometimes with a spoon and sometimes she just dunked her whole fist in there. Ok, so we won't be sharing these cupcakes with anyone.

3. She finally decided to start helping fill the muffin cups. Take a nice long look at the tray.

4. Well we were able to keep enough batter out of her mouth to make 2 dozen cupcakes. Awesome. I decided Lexi would like to help me some more. She also agreed with me about this.

5. So, I, being the wise momma that I am, realized that maybe she should have an easier job this time. I'll ice the cupcakes - Lex, you can just put sprinkles on them! Easy, right?

6. She has an artist's spirit, I think.

7. Oh and by the way, even if the germs from her hand-dunk in the batter had cooked out we STILL were not going to be able to share these cupcakes. Lexi kept getting a little too into shaking the sprinkles out and would routinely get the whole top of the sprinkles jar onto a frosted cupcake. Her solution was to lick the sprinkles and frosting from the jar and then continue to sprinkle some more. Lovely.

8. Oh wait - one more thing. We REALLY were not sharing these cupcakes, because as soon as they were all frosted and sprinkled, Lexi sneezed all over them. Alright, so, 24 cupcakes and 3 people . . .

9. The taste test: I swear this cupcake-eating-technique is ALL Paul's doing. He also swears the same thing and is quite proud of her.

10. Maybe we should just stick to something simple - like Oreo cookies - in the future.

Sn-O-w My Goodness!

Hip Hip Hooray - another Snow Day!

Wichita got another snowstorm this week and with the lovely pretty white fluff came another snow day for Momma (one of the joys of teaching!)!

I waited until Paul got home from work to bundle up Lexi so she could play in the snow. You see, by the time I get her dressed and double layered I am too exhausted to want to play in the snow! So she went out with her Daddy!

Lexi LOVES to play in the snow!

Snow Day

SNOW DAY!!!

It snowed here in Wichita a week ago, but it took us until today to FINALLY get Lexi out to play in it! She had a blast - throwing snow at her Daddy and tromping around in her boots!

I was super-excited to be able to use our new high speed camera today, too! It makes taking pictures a lot more fun!
