Halloween 2013 was a little different for us because Daddy had to be in Canada for work. I told him he was lucky that he could dress up as an American without needing to pack a costume.
The teachers at my school go a little crazy on Halloween - I can't say that this isn't partly my fault. I LOVE Halloween and LOVE dressing up - any day when I can wear a tiara is a GREAT day. This year our theme was Disney, and even though I'm sure everyone expected me to be a princess, I went villain this year!
I was the Queen of Hearts and I had so much fun saying "Off with your HEAD!" and pretending to be menacing to my students all day!
Lexi got SUPER specific about her costume again this year. She decided to be Lady Bug Girl. This is different than a normal ladybug costume - we had to match the book character EXACTLY. That meant that I had to make her costume - no store bought costumes for this little lady(bug)!
I think I did a pretty good job, too!
Emma Jo was easier to please. She is a huge fan of Sofia the First (or Sopia the Pirst, as Emma says).
This costume was easy - bought the dress and tiara at Target, and the necklace at a costume jewelry store. I must say that I prefer the 15 minutes of effort for Emma's costume over the hours of tutu-making, wing-sewing, and leg-warmer-finding of Lexi's costume!
Lexi pretty much has this trick-or-treat thing down: knock on door, smile preciously, say 'trick-or-treat' and then a very polite 'thank you' followed by a 'Happy Halloween!' She laid the charm on thick enough at most houses to earn a second or even third piece of candy.
Emma took a different approach. Earlier in the week, Lexi was trying to prep Emma for trick-or-treating. As she was trying to teach her that if you say "trick-or-treat" people will give you candy, Emma interrupted with this little gem: "I no want candy! I want pancakes! Trick or Treat for pancakes!"
Sadly no one gave my little princess any pancakes, but she still enjoyed the night. Well, mostly enjoyed the night. Since I was walking them on my own, I had to deal with Emma's over-it meltdown about a block away from home.
My mom was awesome and offered to let the girls sleepover at her house once they were done trick-or-treating. After single-momming it all week, I was happy to oblige!

The laundry, dishes, and grocery shopping had been sorely neglected. I managed to sneak in a run the next morning - gorgeous weather and beautiful fall colors.
Daddy comes home TODAY! Facetime is nice . . .
but having him home is better.
Because THIS face:
is how I feel the whole time Paul is gone.
